Partner Projects – Aviva Stadium, Lansdowne Rd, Dublin
The new €365m home of Irish rugby and soccer will be a superb 50.000 all seated stadium. The stadium is on four levels on three sides and sweeps down to one level at the North End to minimise the impact on residents. An unusual feature of the previous stadium on the same site was a commuter train line, (DART), which passed directly under the West Stand. This stand which was to be demolished, provided stability to the old masonry walls forming the railway viaduct complicating the demolition and construction operations.
In advance of demolition, our partners BLP Ireland prepared the track safety management strategy for submission to the rail
authority (Irish Rail). This detailed how the West Stand was to be demolished and the new works constructed without endangering rail assets, human life or rail related business.
During the foundations contract. FTBS engineering partners BLP provided the specialist pile foundation design for the stadium to Bam and their piling contractor, P) Edwards 84 Co. For the main stadium works FTBS partners BLP provided temporary works designs, including the substructure components of the system used to support the roof until the main structural elements.
